Western Mass CIT-TTAC provides training and technical assistance to police departments within Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties.
CIT is a first-responder model of police-based crisis intervention training to assist persons with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorder.
CIT officers effectively divert persons in mental health crises away from jail and refer them to the appropriate local community service providers.
This model promotes officer safety and the safety of the individual in crisis.
CIT is an effective agent for overcoming negative stereotypes and stigma associated with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorder.
