In May of 2023, the Department of Mental Health (DMH) implemented a Knowledge Check and Skills Application test that Officers must pass to be considered CIT Certified. Certificates are valid for approximately three
years at which point Officers are encouraged to enroll in a CIT Refresher class to recertify. Officers who completed CIT training prior to May 2023 are also encouraged to enroll in the Advanced and refresher classes to become certified.
